Project Mayhem
"who we are, what we do, why we do it"
Team work, robot building, engineering designs, preparing for competitions and awards
These are the themes in the minds of the Robotics Team members since the beginning of the New Year 2009. Building robots has taught the team endurance, collaboration, team work, social responsibility, and gracious professionalism. Together the Team is developing strategies for excellence in everything during the competitions, in school, and outside school. From these thoughts the name of the team was born "Project Mayhem" with motto "Excellence through Chaos," which fits the team well because each member places an important part of the team and even though it looks like they are working in different projects, the Project Mayhem is only one: Building a Robot that will compete at The FIRST Chesapeake Regional Competition in Annapolis at the US Naval Academy in March 2009. The team will represent Owings Mills High School for the first time. We encourage the entire school students and staff to visit this fantastic free event, have a wonderful time cheering for your school team and enjoy a nice dinner at the great restaurants in Annapolis. During the Fall 2008 we had CCBC, JHU, and engineers (parents) teaching students physics and engineering concepts in order to build the robot. The Engineering Club has two robotics teams: Junior robot VEX-951 and FIRST (for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Rookie Robot -2866. The VEX-951 won a Championship Award last December 2008 so now this team is preparing to compete at a state level in Texas. The FRC Rookie Robot 2866 will compete in a game called LUNACY1 to become familiar with this fun game visit the website www.usfirst.org.
